Easter Blessings: A Day in the Heart of Rome

ROME 2016

History has had a great influence on Rome. Everywhere there are ruins, and the most famous are Colosseum, Forum Romanum and Via Appia. The Vatican is an independent state in the middle of Rome. We were in Rome during Easter, and we heard Pope Francis speak and bless the crowd from the balcony.

Easter Blessings: A Holiday in the Heart of Rome

Rome, the Eternal City, offers a rich tapestry of history, culture, and spirituality, particularly during the vibrant Easter season. With its ancient ruins, breathtaking architecture, and lively atmosphere, it becomes a perfect backdrop for photographers and history enthusiasts.

Some of the places that we found great pleasure in were Via del Corso, Piazza Navona. Pantheon, Colosseum, Palazzo Venezia and  Capitolini Museums behind it. All big attractions, but they were also amazing.

Via del Corso with its throngs of people from people shopping in the luxurious shops to beautiful young women offering erotic assistance. Piazza Navona is filled with beautiful art – statues and fountains and offers both food and drink in elegant sidewalk restaurants. Here there were unimaginable opportunities for street photography and also nearby in Pantheon with its large, open dome.

The Colosseum was impressive but did not invite me to use the camera to any significant extent. Then it was different with Palazzo Venezia, which remains as a monument built by Mussolini. The palace is ugly in my opinion, but has charm, and people’s life flourishes in the square in front. Capitolini Museums is divided by a very beautiful square between the two parts and exhibits art from the Roman Empire and classical art.

Wandering through Rome, the echoes of history reverberated around us. The Colosseum stood proudly as a monument to the grandeur of the Roman Empire, while the Roman Forum reminded me of the political and social arenas of ancient times. Here are endless opportunities for stunning shots.

The Via Appia is one of the oldest and most important roads of ancient Rome. This historic path is ideal for capturing the essence of Rome beyond the bustling tourist spots. It was as if time stood still, allowing me to frame my shots with a sense of history that few other places can offer.

The  Vatican City stands as an independent state that is exclusive for its religious significance. During Easter, the Vatican becomes a focal point for believers from around the globe. This Easter, we had the immense privilege of hearing Pope Francis address the crowd from the iconic balcony overlooking St. Peter’s Square.

The sight of thousands gathered in unity created a vivid display of humanity and faith, perfect for capturing that through the lens. Moments like these are generally fleeting yet incredibly powerful.

A visit to St. Peter’s Basilica also offers photographic opportunities. Be sure to take in Bernini’s stunning masterpiece, the Baldachin, at the center of the basilica that draws the eye upward, highlighting the grandeur of the interior.

Easter is the perfect time to visit Rome. The outdoor temperature is like a summer day in Denmark. The narrow streets of Rome are filled with people – romans and tourists, and if you just turn at a corner, maybe you run into an ancient statue or a fountain. Small cafes, lively piazzas, and local markets come alive during Easter.

I suggest you take a look at my portfolio from Lourdes, France.
