Celebrating Love: Couples in the City of Light

COUPLES IN PARIS

Paris is called the “City of Love”. There is a romantic steam everywhere. A lot og foreigners choose to get married in Paris.
In this portfolio are images of couples I have come across in Paris.

Two people relax on a blanket in a sunlit park, enjoying a tender moment. Another person is seated nearby, reading.
Black and white city street scene with people walking. A man checks his phone, holding flowers; a woman stands nearby.
Couple viewing framed artwork in a street gallery display, standing closely with backs turned, captured in monochrome.
Elderly shopkeepers stand in front of their traditional store, showcasing assorted vintage items in the window display.
Couple relaxing in park chairs under trees, stroller nearby. Man rests with feet up, woman checking her phone.
Two people in leather jackets and jeans lean over a stone bridge, gazing at a scenic view under a cloudy sky.
Two people sit on a bench by a busy street with cars passing by, one reading a newspaper, the other adjusting a cane.
Black and white photo of two people embracing by a leafy hedge, with a tree nearby and a building in the background.
Visitors standing in an art gallery surrounded by large paintings, under a softly lit, curved ceiling.

Couples in the City of Love and Romance

This portfolio was created after several trips to Paris. I didn’t set out to photograph couples. There is romance everywhere in Paris. It is especially remarkable that the area around the Eiffel Tower is full of young couples who have just gotten married and want to have their wedding photos taken there. Nothing is done by halves these days. When you need to hire people to immortalize your wedding, nothing less than a still photographer and a videographer can do it. You travel to Paris to get married here. Of course, there are couples everywhere, but I have especially noticed them in the parks, where you can relax and enjoy each other. Here, all those who are already married sit, perhaps with the addition of the children who have come out of the relationship.
The same with the banks of the Seine. Romance abounds here too.

There are also great opportunities to photograph couples in Montmartre, and here I don’t mean Place du Tertre, which is a real goat market with tourists and scam artists. No, take a walk around the cozy narrow streets and you will meet the real Montmartre. Maybe I could also mention Disneyland as a romantic place for couples, but that has nothing to do with French or Parisian romance. It’s just a little piece of the USA moved to Europe.

I’ve seen an advice online that, when taking candid photos of couples, you should use a telephoto lens to be more inconspicuous. I want people want to know I’m present, and there’s a kind of acceptance in that. I don’t like standing at a distance and stealing a picture with a long telephoto lens.
